Telemundo se estableció originalmente en San Juan, Puerto Rico cuando nuestro fundador, Ángel Ramos, decidió ofrecerle a la Isla la más alta calidad en periódico, radio y televisión. Como visionario y ejecutivo de medios profundamente comprometido a informar y entretener a la comunidad, el Sr. Ramos comenzó a construir una estación de televisión que eventualmente se convertiría parte de la rica herencia de la Isla.
En abril del 1954, Telemundo inició la construcción de la estación en la sede del periódico ubicado en el Viejo San Juan (Puerta de Tierra). El equipo era lo último en la tecnología que General Electric tenia disponible en aquel entonces; tan sofisticado que GE envió a sus propios ingenieros desde Syracuse, Nueva York para ayudar durante la instalación. El equipo consistía de cinco cámaras rodantes, dos micrófonos "boom", y dos cabinas de control. Después de varios meses de prueba y haber resuelto todas las preocupaciones operacionales, el esperado lanzamiento de WKAQ-Telemundo se fijó para el 28 de marzo del 1954.
Telemundo creó innovadores programas de entretenimiento y deportes, además de reportar las noticias para la audiencia hispana. Telemundo was originally established in San Juan, Puerto Rico when our founder, Angel Ramos, decided to offer Puerto Ricans the highest quality newspaper, radio, and television in the island. As a visionary and media executive deeply committed to informing and entertaining the community, Mr. Ramos began the construction of a television station that would become part of Puerto Rico's heritage.
In April of 1953, Telemundo began the station's construction at the newspaper's building located in Old San Juan (Puerta de Tierra). The top of the line equipment was the best technology General Electric had to offer at the time; so sophisticated that GE sent its own engineers from Syracuse to help local engineers during installation. The equipment consisted of five moveable cameras, two microphone booms, and two control rooms. After months of testing equipment and settling all operations concerns, the much anticipated launch of Telemundo's WKAQ was set for March 28, 1954.
Telemundo created innovative entertainment and sports programs, and reported the news for the Hispanic audience. As the world changed, Telemundo became Puerto Rican viewers' window to the world; witnessing events like the 1968 World Series and Americans' first step on the moon.Telemundo internacional
Telemundo Internacional, a division of Telemundo Network, is dedicated to the international sale and distribution of the network’s original content and a catalog of programs by leading producers in the industry. In addition, part of the business philosophy of Telemundo Internacional is to identify new development ideas to create content for the industry and generate original and interesting business for the new television platforms.
Currently, we are the second largest Spanish-language content distributor in the world with more than 200 programming slots. In 2008, our content, which includes novelas, specials, variety, entertainment and reality shows, was broadcasted in over 104 countries around the world and translated/subtitled to more than 35 languages, reaching a total of 36,000 hours of programming aired outside the U.S. and Puerto Rico.
