Miss Universe to be held in Dubai? Donald Trump thinks so

Donald Trump, an American business magnate, is hoping Dubai will play host to the Ryder Cup and Miss Universe pageant, someday in future.

Trump, who is involved in developing Trump International Golf Course in the $6 billion Akoya by Damac in Dubailand, believes the course, designed by Gil Hanse, will be a perfect venue to host the tournament.

"I would like to see them go after it really strongly and I will help them.  This is an incredible venue for the Ryder Cup to be brought to. I am not saying ‘we’re going to get the Ryder Cup,’ but I think we would have a great chance,” the billionaire said during the launch of the 104 luxury villas and mansions in Trump Estates in Akoya by Damac on Monday.

“Certainly the course is designed to the highest standards of golf. It’s as good as it gets in terms of shot making, in terms of everything, shot value in particular. I think we will have a good chance to get the Ryder Cup because they will be bringing it to this region at some point, in my opinion, in the not-too-distant future, and we will have the best course by far."

The Ryder Cup is a biennial golf competition between teams from Europe and the US. The competition, which is jointly administered by the PGA of America and the PGA European Tour, is contested every two years with the venue alternating between courses in the US and Europe This year it is being held in Gleneagles in Scotland.

As regards to Miss Universe, Trump said there was a possibility of the beauty contest coming to Dubai in future.

“Currently, there are 18 nations bidding for it, including China. Dubai can play a host to the event in near future,” he added.

Miss Universe is an annual international beauty contest that is run by the Miss Universe Organization. The contest was founded in 1952 by the California clothing company Pacific Mills. The pageant became part of Kayser-Roth and then Gulf+Western Industries before being acquired by Donald Trump in 1996.

Dubai is the host nation for World Expo 2020, with government official revealing at the Arabian Travel Market that the emirate would be bidding to host more international events and exhibitions.
